Remote Area Life Support - Desert and Mountain (RALS-DM) (Morocco)

Join us for a comprehensive wilderness medical course, combined with a fascinating trip through the stunning desert and mountains of Morocco.

The adventure starts in Marakesh, where we spend the first day sharing ideas and discussing expedition planning, expedition first aid kits, bites and stings, heat illness and common medical problems.

After a hearty meal and a good rest, we set off to travel through the remote desert and later trek/climb the highest mountain in the Atlas range, Mount Toukbal (4,167m / 13,665 ft).

We initially travel by 4 x 4, camping out and practising desert medicine skills and scenarios in a real remote environment. The course then takes us to the Atlas mountains, where we gradually ascend Mt Toukbal, staying in huts and tents and using the acclimatisation days to expand our knowledge of the effects of altitude, exercise associated hyponatraemia, dehydration, rescues, hypothermia, frostbite and medical conditions at altitude.
